LAND O' LAKES, Fla. -

Dr. Susanne Frances Blough Abbott passed away on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, in Land O' Lakes, Fla., following a long courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born August 12, 1943, in Fort Wayne, Ind., graduating from North Side High School in 1961.

In 1965 she received her bachelor degree in elementary education and special education from Indiana University.

In 1969 she received a Master of Education Degree in the Education of Exceptional Children at the Pennsylvania State University and in 1982 a Doctorate Degree in Early Childhood Education at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa.

She began her teaching career in Fort Wayne in 1965, followed by service teaching handicap students in Kalamazoo, Mich., Bellfont, Pa. and Olean, N.Y.

She then switched to teacher preparation, serving as an assistant processor at LaSalle University in Philadelphia.

She then became Director of Education at The Green Tree School in Philadelphia.

Susanne ended her career and retired as Director of Special Services at Bedford Central Schools in Bedford, N.Y. In 1983, she married her longtime friend, Dr. John C. Abbott, in Philadelphia.

They shared similar career experiences which only strengthened their relationship.

Susanne was an avid doll collector, acquiring an extensive personal collection, as well as, active memberships in local and national Doll Clubs.

She was an avid reader and volunteer to Libraries and Literacy Programs.

She and John loved to travel and had many wonderful trips with friends and family, both in the U.S. and Internationally.

She was a dedicated Community Servant.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Russell Bertrand.

In addition to her husband, Susanne is survived by her sister, Sharon Bertrand of Columbia City, Ind.; nephew, Todd Bertrand and his wife, Catherine; and the apples of her eye, grand nephews, Alexander and Nathan Bertrand all of Columbia City, Ind.; several cousins, and many extremely valued friends from wherever she lived.

She will be missed and remembered for her smile and outgoing personality by many.

At her request, there will be no service.
