He was born Feb. 8, 1930, in Aristes, a son of the late Harold and Anna (Beaver) Bloom Sr. On Feb. 18, 1950, in the Bethel United Methodist Church, RD Catawissa, he married the former Ethel I. Stine, who survives. He was the love of her life and his passing breaks a marital union of almost 68 years.
He lived most of his life in the Sunbury area. Martin attended Mount Carmel Area schools. Early on he was employed with Sunbury Tires Sales and Services and retired as owner/operator of M.K. Bloom Tires Sales and Services, Sunbury.
Martin was a member of Augusta Baptist Church, Sunbury. He was a charter member of Lower Augusta Fire Company, and a member of Roaring Creek Valley Rod and Gun Club Hunting Camp, Poe Valley.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing Pinochle.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Paul Force, of Sunbury, Linda and Duane Gessner, of Leck Kill, Carol and Ken Klinger, of Herndon, and Janet and Rhett Saugier, of Macungie; 11 grandchildren, Christi Hess, Tara Magruder, Emily Rockey, Kurt Gessner, Chad Lehman, Justin Lehman, Brock Lehman, Angela Merrick, Ken M. Klinger, Savannah Saugier, and Cade Saugier; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Kathryn McVaugh, of Friendsville.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Lehman; one grandson, Brent Gessner; and two brothers, Charles Bloom and Harold Bloom Jr.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at The Robert G. Foust Jr. Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Augusta Baptist Church, 1371 Boyles Run Road, Sunbury, where the funeral service will be held at 11 with the Rev. Robert Commerford officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
