Grafton Camp Stream

Camp Stream was born on 26th of June 1892 in
El Reno, Indian Territory, OK, the third of seven children born to Samuel Addison Stream and Alaska Belle Camp Stream. He was the first of their children to be born in OK: the other two being born in KS. He was raised in El Reno and graduated from El Reno High School. After graduation, he went to work on the Rock Island Railroad as a brakeman. This was to be his career. Through his employment, he met Bessie Rae Post. She managed Grier Restaurants for the Rock Island. Bessie was born in Atwater, Meade Co. KS, however, whe she was about 10 years old, her family returned to their native OH It was in and around Athens and Corning, Ohio that she was raised and received her education. After leaving home in her late teens, she settled in Columbus, OH before going to work for the RR. It was through her position that she lived in several different places in the SW part of the U.S She managed restaurants in Sayre, Albuqurque and El Reno as well as several other places.

On 16 July 1923, she and Camp were married in St. Louis, MO. They came back to his hometown, El reno, to set up housekeeping. Their first home was an apartment over a hardware store on N. Rock Island. They, also lived on W Hayes and S. Roberts Streets before settling permanently at 209 W. Foreman. During the early days of the depression, Camp was laid off by the RR. Through the WPA, he found employment. One of the projects, he worked on was a bridge known as the loping bridge to area residents; it was located near Bridgeport, OK After completing this project, WPA sent Camp and his family to Woodward for several years. This is where their daughter, Pat, started first grade. Bessie and Camp had three children, however, only the youngest survived into adulthood. Both Bessie Lyle and Beverly Ross were still born.

In 1949, Camp was diagnosised as having lung cancer. He died at the old Mercy Hospital on 1 September 1950 , and was buried in El reno, OK. About 1956, Bess sold their family home and moved around the corner to 411 N. Choctaw. Here she made her home until her death on 28 May 1964 from Colon cancer. She died in Parkview Hospital in El Reno. Benson Funeral home is El Reno handled the services for both Bess and Camp. Bess is buried with Grafton and their two oldest children in the El Reno Cementery.
