Marriage to Edith Harriet Allenson in Lewisham, London in 1902. There were 3 children of the marriage, all born in the UK - Winnifred Joyce Graham (1904-1988), Frederick Allenson Rutter (1909-1909) and Allenson Gordon Rutter (1912-1992). Emigrated from London with his wife and 2 surviving children bound for Wellington, New Zealand on 27th March 1913 aboard the ship 'Athenic' arriving in May 1913. They took up residence in Masterton where he worked as a monumental stonemason with Hoar and Sons until the mid 1950's. He retired to Ashburton following his wife's death in 1952.
