Gary Wayne Griffieth
June 24, 1949 - January 24, 2018 Gary Wayne Griffieth, 68, husband for Forty-Nine Years to Elizabeth Carol Griffieth, died Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born June 24, 1949 in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Charles and Lois Mae Johnson Griffieth.

Gary served on the Mercer County Fire Department for nearly Fifty Years having served as Chief and currently Chief of McAfee Fire Department. He retired as Assistant Fire Chief after serving Twenty-Five Years on the Harrodsburg City Fire Department and also was a retired School Bus Driver with Mercer County Schools after Twenty-Three Years. More recently Gary worked installing pools for Griffieth Pools and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching Westerns on T.V., fishing, hunting, camping, being outdoors and spending time with his family.

Survivors other than his wife include one son Michael Lee (Samantha) Griffieth of Mercer County and one daughter Vicki Renee Griffieth of Mercer County. Four grandchildren: Courtney Griffieth, Aiden Griffieth, Kayleigh Jackson, and Shelbi Jackson; four sisters: Darlene Griffieth of Harrodsburg, Pam (Stuart) Mitchell of Willisburg, Beverly (Lee) Monroe of Burgin, and Kathy Griffieth (William) Gibson of Washington County and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by one brother Charles Griffieth, Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018 at The Carpenter’s Christian Church with Bro. David Collier, Bro. Mark Williams, and Bro. John Kesel officiating. Burial with Firefighter Rites will be held in Spring Hill Cemetery with Chester Craig, Michael Henson, Aaron Shewmaker, Michael Simpson, Billy Freeman, Mike Steele, Logan Steele, Steve Pinkston, Anthony Godby, Joe Monroe, and Paul Parks serving as active pallbearers. Gary’s grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
