She was a graduate of Manual High School, and attended Murray State University where she played as the First Chair Violinist for the University Orchestra. While raising her boys she graduated from Brescia College and then began teaching at Owensboro Catholic High School. She later opened and directed The Learning Ladder daycare center. From there she took the position of Director of Family Life for the Diocese of Owensboro, retiring in 2002. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. John Hyland in 2002; her parents; and her brother, Richard Jackson.
