H.H. Whitney

Henry Homer Whitey, well known and esteemed farmer of the Pleasant Grove Community, East, died Sunday in a Houston, Miss. Hospital after a long illness. He was 79. Mr. Whitney was born and reared in Wayne County, and lived all of his life in the Pleasant Grove community, with the exception of six or seven months when due to advanced age and illness, he went to Natchez to live with a son, Malcolm, and was visiting a daughter at Mantee, Mrs. Martin, where he became ill. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cora McRae Whitney, his son with whom he lived, three daughters, Mrs. Naomi Martin, of Mantee, Mrs. Geraldine Hyatt of Pascagoula, Miss., and Mrs. Nell Parham, of Jacksonville, Fla. Also surviving are a brother, Swep T. Whitney, of Denham community, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Whitney was a farmer and operated his farm until advanced age caused his retirement. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, Aug 24 from the Pleasant Grove Church with Rev. Gaines Thomas officiating and interment was in the Pleasant Grove cemetery.
