Roger Roney Howell, a resident of Shorterville, died Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at his home. He was 73.

Graveside services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, January 25, 2018, in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East with Reverend Danny Quincey officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.

Roger Howell was a native of the Union Community of Henry County but moved to Abbeville with his family as a child. He lived in Abbeville before moving to Shorterville in 1978. He was a 1963 graduate of Abbeville High School and served his country in the Army National Guard in the Abbeville unit. Roger retired from Benny Whitehead, Inc. as a truck driver. In earlier years, he owned and operated Ariton Milling Company. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Theron Roger Howell and Wynell Roney Howell and a brother in law, Jack Skipper.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Kelli Daughtry (Chris), Headland; and Alicia Jacobs, Webb; two sisters, Glenda Skipper, and Deborah Riggs (Browning), all of Abbeville; three grandchildren, Abigail Daughtry, Ashton Jacobs and Hunter Jacobs.
