Lari White, country singer-songwriter and actress, has died from cancer at the age of 52, according to multiple news sources.

She had been diagnosed with advanced peritoneal cancer in September 2017. Last week, she entered hospice.

White's second album "Wishes"" was released in 1994 and was a big success. She charted three top ten country singles from the album; "That's My Baby," "That's How You Know (When You're In Love)," and "Now I Know." She was nominated for top new female vocalist by the Academy of Country Music.

White started singing at a young age with her family's band, The White Family Singers. After college, she sang in Miami, Chicago, and Los Angeles and then moved to Nashville. She won first prize on the Nashville Network's talent show, "You Can Be a Star."

She was signed to RCA Records and released her debut album "Lead Me Not" in 1993. The album achieved moderate success. She charted with the single "What a Woman Wants," then broke out with her second album "Wishes."

After White's deal with RCA ended, she started her own record label called Skinny White Girl. Her most recent release was the 2017 double EP "Old Friends, New Loves."

White was also a songwriter and a producer. She co-produced Toby Keith's 2006 album "White Trash with Money." She had her songs recorded by Travis Tritt and other top country artists.

White was also an actress. She appeared in a small memorable scene at the beginning of the Tom Hanks' movie "Cast Away." She had a role in the 2010 movie "Country Song.

She told "The Tennessean" in 1994, "By the time I'd moved to Nashville, I'd been singing for so long, but I wasn't comfortable enough on the stage between songs, so I started taking acting lessons."

"Gutted by this news," Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the Broadway hit "Hamilton" wrote in a remembrance on Twitter. "Taught alongside (White) in the ASCAP Songwriters' program one summer – you've never met a kinder, more talented songwriter."

Travis Tritt also paid tribute on Twitter. "I'm extremely saddened by the passing of my friend Lari White. She was so talented and a joy to write and record with. My heart goes out to all of Lari's family and friends during this extremely difficult time."

She is survived by her husband, songwriter Chuck Cannon, and their three children.~ Lari White was born May 13, 1965 in Dunedin, Florida. She was a very talented songwriter and recording artist. She remained married to singer-songwriter Chuck Cannon and they have three children. As a child, Lari sang with her parents in their gospel music group, The White Family Singers. Her Grandfather was a Primitive Baptist preacher in the Florida panhandle. She studied music at the University of Miami's Frost School. After graduating, she eventually moved to Nashville and in 1988 won the talent competition 'You Can Be A Star'. She became a backup singer for Rodney Crowell and then signed with RCA Records. Among her RCA recordings were the albums Lead Me Not; Wishes, which produced three country top tens including That's My Baby, Now I Know & That's How You Know (When You're In Love); and the album Don't Fence Me In. Moving to Lyric Street Records, she recorded Stepping Stone. On her own Skinny White Girl label, she then self-produced the albums Green Eyed Soul, and Old Friends, New Loves. She also produced Toby Keith's album White Trash With Money and also sang a duet with Travis Tritt titled Helping Me Get Over You. She also produced artist Billy Dean and was a 3 time Grammy winning artist in gospel with Amazing Grace volumes 1 & 2 and on the soundtrack to the Robert Duvall film 'The Apostle'. An actress also, she was Bettina in the Tom Hanks movie Cast Away. She appeared in the beginning of that film as a metal sculpture artist holding a welding torch. She was sending a package with a unique wings logo, via FedEx to her husband that was in Russia, who was cheating on her. Bettina's trademark wings inspired Hanks' island-marooned character Chuck, with hopes of returning to civilization, after an airplane crash at sea. At the end of the movie, she is now single again & appears as the woman driving the old pickup truck and gives Chuck directions at a crossroads. Upon seeing her wings logo on the tailgate of her truck, he realizes that she is the person that produced the inspiring image that encouraged him throughout his island ordeal. The movie fades with Chuck realizing that she was going to be his destiny. Lari's character of Bettina mirrored the type of person she was in life. Sadly, in September 2017, Lari was diagnosed with peritoneal cancer and it rapidly progressed. Being the special woman she always was, she faced it bravely. On January 23, 2018, God delivered her from it by bringing her Home to be with Him. She was surrounded by her husband Chuck & their three children, her parents, siblings, family & friends. She now resides gloriously in Heaven, eternally and safely in Jesus' care! ~
