Robert Lafayette Bishop, 72, 3rd Avenue, died 2:30 a.m. today at the residence following a long illness. Funeral service 4 p.m. tomorrow at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mamie Jones Bishop; daughter, Mrs. Robert Lee of Conn.; son, Howard H. Bishop of Jacksonville; brother, Melton Bishop of Gadsden; sisters, Mrs. M.C. Clayton, Sr. and Mrs. Susie Early, both of Cedar Bluff; Mrs. James W. Smith of Gadsden; and 6 grandchildren. He was a native of Cherokee County and a resident of Gadsden since 1911. Mr. Bishop was a member of Central Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge 236. He formerly served as tax collector of Etowah County for two terms starting in 1935. Collier-Butler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
