Obit: William Edward Pence, aged 74 years, 10 months, a resident of Porter township, died at his home Sunday evening, January 18. A son of James and Emma Reed Pence, he was born April 7, 1878 in the family home near Smithland. He was married January 16, 1902 to Pearle E. Hepler, who survives with 5 daughters and one son, (Mildred) Mrs. Clyde Walls, New Bethlehem, R.D.3, (Margaret) Mrs. J. E. Goheen, Strattanville, Clarence Pence, Brockway, R. D., (Ruth) Mrs. Harry Swartzfager, New Bethlehem, R.D.3, (Bernice) Mrs. Arthur Henry, New Bethlehem, R.D. 1, and Alma Pence at home. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Mrs. Forest Bish, Port Matilda, 2 brothers, Arthur Pence, Buffalo, NY and Harry Pence, New Bethlehem, R.D. 1. Services were held in the Leatherwood Presbyterian church, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30. Interment in the church cemetery under the direction of R. F. Mateer, Jr., New Bethlehem.
