She worked there as an assistant Professor for a number of years, then moved to Wooster , Ohio in 1918 to work for the Ohio Experiment Station as assistant Botanist. In 1927 she was made curator of the Herbarium at the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles CA.
While hiking in the hills of Los Angeles at the age of 67 (spring of 1934) she fell some 75 feet down a cliff when the heel of one of her boots came off. She weighed about 78 pounds.
