Mr. VanCleave was born August 13, 1905 in Cooper to George Finley and Minerva Jane Bundy VanCleave. He grew up in Cooper and attended country school. After school, he went on to farm with his family in Greene County.
Mr. VanCleave married Fonnie Katerine Clark on April 24, 1926. The family farmed near Yale, then moved to Bayard.
Mr. VanCleave is survived by seven sons, Paul of Waukee, Reid of Richmond, Virginia, George of Guthrie Center, Lloyd of Perry, Harold of Perry, Missouri, Joe of Fort Collins, Colorado and Donald of Fort Collins, Colorado; three daughters, Zola Summerson of Dawson, Melva Conz of Eldon and Fairy Jean Laursen of Gilbert, Arizona; 31 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Mr. VanCleave was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Sharon; one grandson, William Edward VanCleave; one great-grandson, Joshua VanCleave; three brothers, John, Jim and Ora; and four sisters, maggie Allen, Mary Allen, Stella Erb and Bertha Taylor.
