John Francis was the first Postmaster for Mountville in 1837.
John was a carver of masonery. At his father's home he carved a stone that said "John Francis 1819" which is by the south entrance to the home.
In his home to the south of the Home place there was a Marble Plaque that was carved for his home that had all of his then living family's initials on it. It was carved in 1849.

Under the BBJ is a Seal with a Trowel and Stone Hammer, and under the ME is a Seal with a Hatchet and Square.
