Born Anna Signoret, the daughter of Felix and Kate Signoret, Sister Teresa Signoret, I.H.M., was a member of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary who taught at the school connected to the old St. Vibiana's Cathedral in Los Angeles. After her death from tuberculosis, she was buried in old Calvary Cemetery on North Broadway, and reinterred to the present location after 1897. From her obituary in the Los Angeles Times, April 5, 1888:
"Sister Theresa, formerly known as Miss Anna Signoret, sister-in-law to Messrs. E. (Rose) McGinnis and E. (Josephine) Griffin, died yesterday morning at 8 o'clock at the house of the Sister of the Sacred Heart, back of the Cathedral of Santa Vibiana. The deceased will be buried from there this morning at 9 o'clock. Sister Theresa was only 26 years of age and died from consumption."
