NORMAN
GD Carrick was born north of Gould, Harmon County, OK, on Feb. 19, 1925. He grew up on the family farm with a large family and extended family in the area. GD attended Gould High School until he joined the army during WWII. After the war, he returned to Harmon County to raise wheat, cotton, and cattle. He was known in the cattle industry for his knowledge and willingness to help young ranchers. GD married Virginia Foster on Jan. 14, 1950. Together, they raised four children and fostered other children through the years. They were class parents for many consecutive years and served at the Church of Christ. GD was Santa Claus for several generations of Shelby nieces and nephews along with other friends and relatives. Following his retirement, GD and Virginia moved to Norman to be close to family. GD blessed many lives with his friendship, and he was faithful to keep up with his friends and family with phone calls and visits. He was diligent in gathering loved ones together for Friday night meals. GD enjoyed watching sports and particularly enjoyed talking to his brother, Leon, about their beloved "Thunders." A host of friends were faithful to visit and cook for GD, which he loved. In his last days, he was told, "There are a lot of people who love you," to which he responded, "There are a lot of people I love." He truly did go "Home for the Holidays" on Thursday, Dec. 14. He was surrounded by his family. GD leaves his wife, Virginia, of Norman; brother, Leon & wife Jean, of Hollis; daughter, Kelcie Carrick Carter & husband Kent, of Norman; daughter, Tracey Barnett, of Clovis, NM; son, Grant Carrick & wife Sue, of Lexington, KY; and daughter, Becky Carrick, of Plano, TX. GD also leaves his 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved. GD was preceded in death by his parents, John Addison Carrick and Mary Dave Little Carrick; brothers, Carlos Haught, Sherman Haught, MD Carrick, Floyd Carrick, JA Carrick, and Albert Carrick; and sisters, Bonnie Shelby and Thelma Martin. GD donated his body to medical science. In lieu of a funeral service, he requested to have a get-together in Hollis, OK. His final resting place will be the Fairmont Cemetery in Hollis. Memorial donations are welcome to the Center for Children & Families, Inc., 210 S Cockrel Ave, Norman, OK 73071, In Memory of GD Carrick.
