King M. Baker loved the Lord with all his heart while on earth and now does loves his Lord in Heaven. King went to his eternal home on January 12, 2018 after a lengthy battle with muscular dystrophy. A lifelong resident of Pike County, King lived most of his life in Summit, MS. He was 77 years old.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 5 pm to 7:30 pm at the Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb, located on Delaware Ave. Visitation continues on Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 2 pm to 3 pm followed by funeral service in the chapel at Hartman-Jones. Burial will follow at the Baron Bethany Cemetery on Summit-Holmesville Rd in McComb. Dr. Larry LeBlanc of FBC Summit and Dr. Les Hughes will officiate.

King was born on August 21, 1940 to Edwin Baker and Alice Gabriel Baret Baker. He grew up in Summit, MS and graduated from Johnston Station High School. He married Martha Raye Nixon in 1959.

After serving in Germany in the US Air Force, King graduated from Samford University in Birmingham, AL with a BS in Pharmacy. He and Martha opened King's Discount Drugs on Aston Ave in McComb in 1974. He owned and operated King's for over 30 years before retiring due to health reasons.

King loved the Lord, his wife Martha, his family, and his neighbors. He is remembered for his love for people, especially serving his neighbors as a pharmacist in his store, King's Drugs. People miss the King. An active member of First Baptist Church in Summit, he served as a deacon for many years. He and Martha had a heart for missions and made several medical mission trips to Nicaragua and Honduras. King loved traveling with family as well as scuba diving and hunting with his sons and sons-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his father Edwin Baker and mother Alice Baret Baker of Summit; father-in-law John Nixon of Warner Robbins, GA and mother-in-law Inez Bryant of Summit; sister Delores Baker Barnett of McCall Creek; and brothers Ed Baker of Brookhaven, LeVeq Baker of Summit, and Brandt Baker of Brookhaven.

King is survived by his baby, Martha Nixon Baker, his wife of 58 years; four children, Cherie Baker Brown and husband Jeff of McComb, MS, King M. Baker, Jr and his wife Michelle of Fulshear, TX, Keith L. Baker and his wife Roxanne of Katy, TX, and Pennie Baker Redd and husband Jeff of Bogue Chitto, MS.; ten grandchildren, Blair Rosenbaum of Austin, TX, Russ Brown and wife Kayla of Lascassas, TN, Devyn Baker of Summit, Derek Baker and wife Celia of Grafenwoehr, Germany, Kendall Baker of Katy, TX, Josh Baker of Oxford and brother Jackson Baker of Katy, TX, Corey Brown of McComb, Lucy Redd and sister Lily Redd of Bogue Chitto; one brother, Dal Baker and wife Polly of Jena, LA; one sister, Alice Baker Soileau and husband Joe of Jena, LA; one great granddaughter, Addie Rose Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Russ Brown, Corey Brown, Blair Rosenbaum, Josh Baker, Jackson Baker, and nephew LaRue Baker.

Honorary pallbearers will be nephews Dan Brown, Bobby Moak, Dale Barnett, and Mac Baker; and longtime friend Billy Moak.

Memorial donations in Mr. King M. Baker's name may be made to Hospice Compassus or First Baptist Church of Summit.
