TROY - David Henry Abbott, 88, of Troy, passed away Monday, March 26, 2007, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy.

He was born in Troy on Sept. 30, 1918, to the late William T. and Katie A. (Sweigart) Abbott. David married Violet Bell Packman on Sept. 8, 1940, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 21, 2004.

David is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Fred Barhorst of Sidney and Gayle and Charles Doll of Piqua; four grandchildren, Colleen (Tracy) Bodey of Troy, Dawn (Joe) Young of Troy, Charles Hilbert of Troy, and Amanda Harmon of Piqua; four great-grandchildren, Heather and Kris Bodey, Cole Young and Joshua Hughes.

In addition to his wife and his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Charles William Abbott.

He was a graduate of Elizabeth Township High School in 1936. David served his country during World War II from 1943-1945 as a veteran of the 175th Infantry of the 29th Division in the U.S. Army. He was a distinguished recipient of the Purple Heart medal.

David retired as a Tool and Die Maker from Hobart Corp., Troy, after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Hobart Quarter Century Club.

David was a member and past commander from 1958-1959 of the Chaney-Graft-Pitsenbarger Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4874, Piqua.

Anyone who knew David would attest that he was a loyal customer of the Bob Evans restaurant in Troy.

There will be a funeral held at 2 p.m. Friday, at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy, with Pastor Tracy Bodey officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Thursday. Interment will take place in Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, with a military service at the graveside by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.
