Grace M. Bia Sept. 23, 1952 - Jan. 2, 2018

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Grace M. Bia, 66, of Window Rock, were held Jan. 10 at the Good Shepherd Mission Episcopal Church in Fort Defiance, with Rev. Cathalena Plummer officiating. Interment followed in Fort Defiance.

Grace was born Sept. 23, 1952, in Fort Defiance, into the Apache/Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan), born for Tótsohnii (Big Water Clan). She died Jan. 2, 2018, in Tohatchi, New Mexico.

Grace attended Gallup High School and Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute in Albuquerque. She worked temporarily at General Dynamics and at the Navajo Census Office in Window Rock.

Grace loved to go to rodeos, powwows and gourd dances. She also liked to work on puzzles and crossword puzzles.

Grace is survived by her son, Allen Harragarra; brother, Gabriel Bia; sisters, Victoria Bowman, Theresa Begay and Christine Hatch of Towaoc, Colorado; and two grandchildren.

Grace is preceded in death by her parents, Mary H. Bia and William C. Bia; maternal grandparents, Charlie and A-Ho-Bah Tsosie; paternal grandparents, Carl Bia and Eunice Blackgoat; Michael H. Bia, Clifton A. Bia, Wilma J. Lily and Gail Tsosie.

Pallbearers were Shawn Bia Sr., Christopher Bia, Carl Bia, Shawn Bia Jr., Jeremy Hardy and Ernest Begay.

Honorary pallbearers were Allen Harragarra and Gabriel T. Bia.

Silver Creek Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
