Thomas Malcolm Ivey, age 84, passed from this life on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation of Fort Worth, TX. He was born on August 12, 1933 into the ranching family of William Lee Ivey and Katie Lea (Norwood) Ivey, who were living on the banks of Hubbard Creek in Shackelford County.

Tom Ivey was a man of great wisdom and jack-of-all trades. He graduated from Baird High School with the Class of 1950, and then worked for the Texas & Pacific Railroad Company. He proudly served our country in the United States Army, entering active duty on May of 1953 and served during the Korean War. Following his Army service, Tom graduated from McMurray College in Abilene. While attending McMurray he met Carol Ann Allen, and they were married December 29, 1957.

Tom moved to Big Spring where he began his career in the oil and gas industry with Cosden Oil & Chemical Company. During his years in Big Spring he made many good friends both in the industry and outside, as his work as credit manager for several refineries around the country required extensive travel. Tom left the refining and plastics industry in 1978 but continued in the oil and gas industry in various capacities.

In 1983 Tom returned to the Ivey family home in Baird to raise cattle and honey bees, continuing the traditions learned as a boy and young man. He helped many while serving as the Callahan County Veteran’s Officer in Baird for over 20 years, and took great pride in helping veterans and their families. He was the long-time President of the Baird Cemetery Association, a true supporter and member of the Baird Chamber of Commerce, was on the restoration committee for Save Our Depot, and a member of the Callahan County Historical Commission. Additionally, Tom was also very active as a Board member for West Texas Girl Scouts Council. Tom had a heart of gold and a smile that could light the room. His true passion was helping others and he will be missed by many.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Lois Ivey Weeks and husband Fred of Fort Worth, TX; Kent Ivey and Karen of Big Spring, TX; and Lynn Ivey Fleming and husband Robert of Troy, TX; and four grandchildren: Dakota Fleming, Augustus Fleming, Josh Walker and Lindsay Fowler.

He is preceded in death by his wife: Carol Ann (Allen) Ivey; his parents: William Lee and Katie Lea Ivey; and two sisters: Carol Moring and Janice Ferguson.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Ross Cemetery Pavilion. Arrangements are entrusted to Parker Funeral Home of Baird, TX. Interment will take place following the service.

The family requests a contribution be made to a charity of choice in lieu of flowers or contributions to stray-dog.org.
