Don F. Birchard II, 83, of Birchardville, PA, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. He was born on February 8, 1934 in Montrose, PA to the late Don T. and Cresence A. (Kittle) Birchard. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sylvia C. (Hughes) Birchard.
Don is also survived by his five children and their spouses, Dawn and Bill Zalewski, Birchardville, PA, Don F. III and Debra Birchard, Grand Rapids, MI, Sylinda and Rob Alfred, Clarks Summit, PA, Amy and Terry Cornell, Grand Rapids, MI, and John and Jennifer Birchard, Birchardville, PA, 19 grandchildren 26 great grandchildren, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marleta and David Shadduck, Warren Center, PA and Virginia and William Kahrl, Birchardville, PA, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was a member of the Forest Lake Baptist Church, Rush Volunteer Fire Company, Forest Lake Volunteer Fire Company, Susquehanna County Volunteer Fireman’s Federation and was a Charter member of the Susquehanna County Fire Police. He was instrumental in establishing the 911 call center in Susquehanna County. Don was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a DHIA Milk Tester for 28 years. He owned and operated Rejmer Manufacturing and later worked for A.D. Bowman & Son Lumber and Pallets.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Forest Lake Baptist Church with Pastor Kenneth Young officiating. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at a later date at the Birchardville Cemetery, Birchardville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 150 Monument Rd., Suite 100, Bala Cynwyd, IA 19004 or checks can be made payable to Jim Nowalk, 997 West Wilkes Barre Turnpike, Montrose, PA 18801 for the benefit the Southern Tier Parkinson Disease Support Group.
