After a difficult 2 month hospital stay, Dr. Dudley Bright passed away peacefully to be with his father, Thomas Lohren Bright, mother, Luz (Herrera) Bright, brothers George and Thomas Arthur Bright and sister Bernice (Bright) Caceres.

Dudley was born in Nogales, Arizona and as an infant his family moved to Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico where he was raised. At the young age of 5, Dudley's father passed away and his mother returned to nursing to support her family.

Education was most important to Dudley and his family. He loved school and set high goals for himself. After graduating high school with honors and a scholarship to the University of Mexico, he chose to come to Salem at the age 18 with the guidance of Bernice(Bright) and Richard Slater, his aunt and uncle. He attended 1 year at Salem High to improve his English and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he was trained to control airplanes from the tower while stationed in Japan.

In September 1954 he was honorably discharged and using the GI Bill studied Mechanical Engineering at Oregon State University for three years before changing to Pre Med. Carrying a heavy credit load, he was able to graduate with his class in the spring of 1958 earning him a degree in chemistry.

A month after returning to Salem, he visited his sisters and met the love of his life, Carolyn Baker. Dudley invited her to a house dinner dance and on May 4, 1955 they were married and happily shared 62 wonderful years together.

After graduation, Dudley went on to Medical School (U of O, Portland), an Internship in New York City and did his Internal Medicine residency at the Presidio in San Francisco. In 1964 he returned to Salem and started his Family Practice Clinic where he enjoyed serving the community of Salem until retiring in 1994.

In addition to his medical practice, he satisfied his love of flying by becoming a pilot and joining the Flying Physicians. Wanting to share his love of planes with others, he started Western Wings Flying Club of Salem.

During retirement Dudley often enjoyed traveling with friends and family, but found helping the Sioux at Fort Yates, North Dakota most fulfilling.

Dudley is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn(Baker) Bright; their two daughters, Denise Merrie Bright and Jennifer Anne (Bright) Baez; son in law, Juan Baez; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and sister; Mildred (Bright) Klecker.

For 86 years Dudley gathered near himself many good and lasting friendships; from 1954, Don Yingling to his wonderfully caring class at Cardio Rehab where 8 years of mutual support became a social group with strong friendships and wonderful nurses.

Grave side services will be held, Saturday, January 6th at 11 am at Restlawn Memory Gardens on Highway 22 and Oak Grove Road NW in Salem.
