The son of Samuel & Susanna (Gsell or Zell) Hacker, in 1860 he was a coach maker/carpenter living in Ephrata Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. No evidence of a marriage has yet emerged. He stood 5' 4" tall and had black hair and hazel eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Lancaster February 15, 1865, as a private with Co. G in the one-year organization of the 195th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company January 31, 1866.
Cause of his death is listed as "acute bronchitis" leading to "edema of lungs." He was the penultimate survivor among the eleven Hacker children.
