Sergeant Mackie served with the
475th Bomb Squadron, 355th Bomb Group
from Barksdale Field, Louisiana.

He was one of six Army airmen killed when
B-26C Marauder #41-35139 crashed into
terrain, nine miles east of Castor,
Louisiana.

The other five airmen killed were:

2nd Lt. John D. Regina (pilot)
2nd Lt. Charles N. Hansen
2nd Lt. Wilfred L. Trass
S/Sgt. Jack C. Kern
Sgt. John B. T. Devitt
Sergeant Mackie served with the
