Woodfin - Maxine Carter Banks, 88, of Woodfin, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 and entered her Heavenly home.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mrs. Banks was a graduate of West Buncombe High School. She retired from the Buncombe County School Systems in 1981 following 23 years of service. She was a loving Christian wife, mother and nanny, and will be dearly missed.
Mrs. Banks was the daughter of the late Ralph Edison and Lola Hayes Carter, and the wife of the late Decatur R. Banks. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Lola McCraw and Ruth Bonham; twin brother, Max Carter; and brothers: Bill Carter and Scott Carter.
Surviving are her children: Sandi Donohue, Deborah Ponder (Mike), Lynn Watkins (Jeff), and Reagan Banks (Karan); grandchildren: Scott Hughey, Stacey Hughey, Grayson Hughey, Candice Watkins, Ryan Watkins, Courtney Watkins-Haynes, Colby Banks, Rachel Banks, and Carly Banks; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also a Mother of Heart to Debbie and Carlos Ford.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating, and with Debbie Ford bringing her message in music. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:15 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
