CHILD KILLED IN ACCIDENT NEAR SHARON

One Adult And Ten Children Are Hurt When Auto Upsets

Betty Lou McIntosh, 10, of Chowchilla was killed and one adult and 10 children were injured at 4 p. m. yesterday when the light two-door sedan driven by Mrs. Viola McMasters, 31, Chowchilla, skidded and rolled on the Sharon road a mile east of the Santa Fe railroad crossing.

The injured were the driver, Mrs McMasters: Pearl, B; Betty, 11; Lillian, 8. and Evelyn McMasters, 13; Charles, Jr., 5, and Nancy Davis, 2; Drial, 4, and Dorothy Mae Harrison, 5; Joan Mitchell, 3, and C. H. Mclntosh, 14. According to the story told Sergeant C. K. Gill and N. W. Halpenny of the highway patrol, the throttle of the car caught down and the driver sought to reach down to pull it free. When she did so the car swerved from the roadway into the mud at the side of the road, skidded and rolled. It was raining at the time.

Six of the injured were taken to the county hospital and five to the Madera sanitarium.

Billy McMasters and C. H. McIntosh were riding on the front lenders of the car. They jumped when the car started to swerve.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternon at 3 o’clock from the Madera Funeral Home chapel.
