Obituary:
Thus has gone an honored citizen of Shiawassee County. A name of high influence, unblemished name, sound integrity--a man who was an honor to mankind. His death was sudden, with scarce a moment's warning, while apparently as well as he had been for some timepast. He fell into the arms of his wife and expired. Some two years ago he had an attack of paralisis from which he only partially recovered his speech, especially, remaining seriously affected.

The name of George W. Slocum was a synonym for all that was honorable, honest and worthy in a man. In his death we feel that we have lost a warm personal friend, who was ever a welcome visitor at The Press office, and whose sound Democaratic counsel was always valued.
He filled many offices of trust in his township and was once Democratic candidate for Representative in the Sate Legislature. Funeral services were held at the church in his neighborhood. There was a very large attendance of friends; there were over 200 carriages in the procession.
