Mrs. Esther Billie Gillis Fugitt, 89, went home to her eternal glory March 17, 2016, at the Methodist Medical Center in Olive Branch, MS. Funeral service will be held Monday, March 28, 2016 from the Morton United Methodist Church at 10:00 am with Rev. Keith Keeton and Rev. Oscar McGough presiding. Visitation will be held Sunday March 27, 2016 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at the Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton, MS and again from 8:30am until 10:00am at Morton United Methodist Church. There will be a private family interment service at the Morton Memorial Gardens Cemetery following the funeral service.

Mrs. Fugitt was a lifetime Methodist and a current member of the Morton United Methodist Church of Morton. She loved her family and friends, but her greatest passion was being a school teacher. She loved teaching it was not only her life's work but her hobby as well. She devoted 38 years as a public school teacher. Mrs. Billie loved children and especially the ones she taught. She retired from Morton Elementary School in 1988 where she had taught 2nd grade for many years. Mrs. Fugitt also started the "We Care Missions" in Morton, MS and worked tirelessly with the mission for many years.

She was born in Kemper County to her parents Malcolm Jefferson and Emma Frances "Bates" Gillis on December 13, 1926.

Mrs. Fugitt was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Franklin Fugitt; her parents, Malcolm Jefferson and Emma Bates Gillis; her sister, Etta Smiley; and her brother, Joe Gillis. She remains devoted in death to her family as she was in life. We know that "her - Frank" will be the first to meet her upon her arrival in heaven.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlene (Van) Wicker of Byhalia, MS; her grandson, Corey (Holly) Smith of Coronado, CA; two great-grandchildren, Haley and Taylor Smith; sisters, Bobbie Poston of Spartanburg, SC, Corin Gibbs of Harmony, MS; brothers Malcolm Gillis of Crosby, TX, Davis (Barbra) Gillis of Lancaster, TX, Guy B. (Nancy) Gillis of Many, LA; and many nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers are Kevin Keeton, Justin Rogers, Keith Beatty, Kevin Beatty, Todd Wilbourn, Stephen Pace.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton, MS
