On Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, Allean McNeish passed away at her home on Mankin Avenue, Beckley. She was in her 86th year.

Born Bertie Allean Adams on Christmas Eve 1921 in the farming country of Johnston County, N.C., Allean was the third of eight children born to the late Charles and Bettie Lee Adams. In addition to her parents, her brothers and sisters, Jader and Charles Adams, Ruby Ludwick and Elgie Barefoot, also preceded her in death.

Allean spent her childhood in Johnston County. She trained to be a registered nurse. During World War II Allean enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps. A recipient of the World War II Victory Ribbon, she held the rank of second lieutenant.

A resident of Beckley for over 60 years, Allean was a dedicated wife and mo-ther. She worked as a dental assistant for Drs. Francis and Theresa Amato Edwards. Allean was a member of Stanaford Missionary Baptist Church. In her leisure time she enjoyed working in her yard and walking.

A woman of strength, Allean endured the deaths of her husband, James McNeish, and son, J.W., with courage, grace and dignity.

Allean was the beloved mother of Sue McNeish Stafford of Fayetteville and Wayne McNeish and his wife, Raye Ann, of Henderson, Ky.; the dear mother-in-law of Sylvia McNeish of Weston; the devoted grandmother of Jay McNeish and his wife, Kelley, Tiffany Bashem and her husband, Alvin, Kristin McNeish and Drew Hopson and his wife, Crystal; the great-grandmother of Jackson, Ella, Riley, Reese and Cooper; the fond sister of J.L. and Glenn Adams and Margie McLamb, all of Benson, N.C.; several nieces and nephews also survive. Allean was blessed to have her "second family" the Roles, Charley, Donna, Matthew and Stacey, in her life and her faithful care giver, Teresa Terry.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. George Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service Thursday. Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
