In the 1870 federal census, the widowed Rachel Gray, 32, and her son, Andrew Gray, 7, were listed in the Franklin, Greene County, Pennsylvania, household of her parents, Jane, 58, and James Acklin, 61.

In 1910 the widowed Rachel A Day, 73, was living in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, with her widowed younger sister, Annie M Clayton, 70. Rachel had had 3 children and 2 were living; Annie had had no children. Rachel Day died from broncho-pneumonia, and was buried at Lippincott Cemetery on March 15, 1915 (death certificate).
