Short Gap---Al Perry "Bud" Lantz, 76, of Sherwood Acres in Short Gap, WV, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at the Western Maryland Health System.

Bud was born on October 29, 1941, in Elkins, WV. He was the son of the late Mary (Stalnaker) and Randolph Lantz, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Mark A. Lantz.

Bud was a graduate of Ridgeley High School. Following high school, Bud was employed at the A&P Market. Later, he was employed at Acme Food Market in Cumberland. He then moved to Tarentum, PA where he was manager of the local Acme Market. Once Bud returned to the Cumberland area, he was employed at Builders Surplus in LaVale. Bud was an active member of the Living Word Lutheran Church. He was a member and President of the Church Council, was a church usher, distributed Communion with his wife to the shut-ins, and was on the property and maintenance committee. He also assisted with the church's quilting group. Bud was a woodworker who had a knack for fixing anything. Bud enjoyed reading, and he worked after his retirement at Wayne's Market in Fort Ashby, WV.

Bud is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol Ann (Pague) Lantz; daughter, Susan L. Formica and husband Jeffrey, Elizabeth, PA; he was "Pap Pap" to his grandchildren, Sarah Formica Shearer and husband Eric, Joseph P. Formica, Samuel A. Formica, and Matthew J. Formica, all residing in the Pittsburg area; brothers, Randolph "Lucky" Lantz and wife Nancy, Carpendale, WV, Michael “Mick” Lantz and wife Brenda, Carpendale, WV, and Roger Lantz and wife Elizabeth, Short Gap, WV; brother-in-law, D. James "Jim" Pague and wife Sandy, LaVale and their children Michael Pague and Kimberly Jenkins and husband Robbie. Bud is also survived by several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special great niece, Kadence.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 3-7 P.M.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Living Word Lutheran Church, 800 Hilltop Drive, Cumberland, on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at noon with Pastor Mark C. Dill officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Joe, Sam, and Matthew; grandson-in-law, Eric; nephew, Michael; and special friends, Adam and Jared Duncan.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Al's memory may make contributions to the Memorial Fund at the Living Word Lutheran Church.
