Betty was born to Evart and Martha Barton on June 29, 1929 in Pauline, NE. She attended Corners School near her home and graduated from Blue Hill High School in Blue Hill Nebraska in 1946. She then attended Hastings College and taught in one-room country school houses in rural Nebraska from 1949 1952.
In 1952, she moved to California where she married Keith Meents in the El Camino Methodist Church near Corning. They set up farming near Corning, CA and Betty became a busy farm wife. They were blessed with two children, a daughter Susan and a son Douglas. Betty was a long time member of the Corning First United Methodist Church where she served in many church offices and on the Board.
She remained active at the age of 88 in Red Hats, and volunteered at the Corning Christian Assistance in the food pantry program. She enjoyed reading, solving crosswords and word searches, sewing, and watching television with her grandson, Matthew.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Keith, her parents, Evart and Martha Barton, her sisters, Dorothy Barton and Irene Hesman, sister in laws, Jessie Meents and Ila Jeane Lepp, brother in laws, Loren Meents, Darrell Meents and Henry Lepp. Betty is survived by her daughter, Susan Olson, son, Douglas Meents, son in law Korby Olson, daughter in law, Deborah Meents, grandsons, Erick Olson and Matthew Meents. She is also survived by her sisters and brother in laws, Mildred and Lyle Mason of Castle Rock CO, Janice and Ken Zimmerman of Blue Hill, NE, her brother and sister in law, Evart and Shirley Barton of Blue Hill NE, her sister in law Sylvia Meents of Corning, CA, her brother in law Fred Hesman of Grand Island, NE and many nieces and nephews.
