Marvin Marttila, 101, of Lake Norden, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Prairie Lake Hospital, in Watertown, SD. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Lake Norden. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 am. Geise Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marvin Marttila was born on June 20, 1916, in Hamlin County, SD, the son of Jonathon and Elsie (Christensen) Marttila. He received his education in rural school in Hamlin County. Marvin farmed his entire life near Lake Norden, SD. He was united in marriage to Elsie (Koistinen) Johnson on December 8, 1983, in Lake Norden. Marvin retired from farming in 1984.

Marvin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, in Lake Norden. Over the years, Marvin served on a number of local agricultural boards. He promoted helping young farmers establish their farming operations, and helped them create firm foundation for their continued success.

Marvin is survived by three nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Elsie and three brothers, Vernon, Howard and Orville.
