Mr. Van Pelt was born of Quaker parents, in Belmont county, Ohio, December 9, 1810, and was married to Elizabeth Arthur, December 27, 1835, and passed with her 52 years of married life. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss. Father Van Pelt was loved and respected by all who knew him. He died as he had lived, with a strong faith in Christ as his Savior, and passed away as peacefully as one falling asleep. He has gone to the better land, and we shall always remember him as a man of integrity and sterling worth. A large number of old residents followed his remains to the cemetery near his old home. J. H. Presson
