Bailey Joe McDaniel was born January 24, 1940 in Shawnee, OK to Joseph Bailey and Bella Albany (Garretson) McDaniel and passed away at his home in Shawnee on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 7 days.

Bailey attended school in Shawnee, Tribbey and McLoud, graduating from McLoud High School in 1958. On September 14, 1959 he married Velma Lee Ray in McLoud, OK and they had 2 children, Anita Gail and Brian Dean McDaniel.

Bailey graduated from Oklahoma State University Technical School in Okmulgee, OK in 1962 with a degree in Industrial Electronics, beginning a career with the U S Department of Labor. He was hired from school at Tinker Air Force Base and was one of 12 civilians in the United States to work on, and change, the war heads on the minute man missiles. He traveled all over the United States doing electronics. In 1968 he was transferred to Dallas, TX to work in quality control for government contracts. He then went on to FAA at Love Field and helped in building DFW. At his retirement he was over Addison Airport in Richardson, TX.

After retirement, he and Velma owned and operated businesses in Kingston, OK and Buncombe Creek Resort on Lake Texoma.

He served as President of The Plano Bass Club in Plano, TX and was president of the All Sports Booster Club in Kingston, OK. He is a member of Wallace Avenue Baptist Church in Shawnee, OK, where he served as a member of The Board of Trustees.

He loved his family very much. He loved for them to come visit, and going to visit them. Bailey loved to play basketball and baseball in his younger days and was an outstanding player at Tribbey High School. He liked to bass fish and was one of the top 6 bass fishermen in the state of Texas in the 1970’s. He was a 50 year member of the Kingston, Oklahoma Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree Mason at Guthrie, OK, and at one time a Shriner at Ardmore, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 sisters, Marthelle McDaniel and Lorre McDaniel.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Velma; daughter, Anita Gail Cameron, and husband Terrell of Gore, OK; son Dr. Brian Dean McDaniel of Victoria, TX; 7 grandchildren, Derek Bridgman and wife Sabrina of Checotah, OK, Heather Hybner and husband D.J. of Victoria, TX, Krista and Kelsey Cameron of Gore, OK, and Megan, Shay, and Grant McDaniel of Victoria, TX; 5 great grandchildren, Andrew, Logan, Sabetha, Lillian and Troy; brothers, Vernon Clarel and wife Geraldine McDaniel of Albany, TX and Kerry and wife, Tusnee McDaniel of Gloucester, VA; brother in law and sister in law, Charles and Belvia Boland of McLoud, OK; many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and his 2 wonderful nurses, Tamra and Sandra.
