James Bonard (Jimmy) Phillips, 76, of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Trinity Ridge.

Mr. Phillips was born October 19, 1941 in Hickory, N.C. to the late Bonard R. Phillips and Ann Maney Phillips. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters; Judy P. Coble and Elizabeth P. Fisher.

He graduated from Hickory High School in 1960, was a member of West Hickory Baptist Church where he sang in the church choir and also sang solos and in a quartet. He was a former Deacon, helper in the food ministry, a former member of Carolina Moonlighters Barbershop Chorus, West Hickory Joymakers and Double Diamond Square Dance Club. He retired from Winn Dixie. Jim loved music, especially southern gospel. He loved his family dearly.

Those left to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 20 years Faye Smith Phillips, daughter, Revonda P. Hale and husband Russell of Oak Ridge, TN, sons: Allan Phillips of Knoxville, TN, Darrell Phillips and wife Jeanne of Summerville, S.C., Keith Phillips and wife Julie of Mooresville, N.C. and Daniel Phillips and wife Amy of Lucas, TX, grandchildren: Candace Atkinson, Matthew Hale, Christopher Phillips, Kimberly Short, April Whaley, Jesse Dorsey, Amanda Weaver, Joshua Phillips, Rachel Phillips, Ryan Phillips and Reese Phillips, 12 great grandchildren, brother, William Martin (Marty) Phillips and wife Judy of Corsicana, TX, sister, Jill P. Lafone of Hickory, brother-in-law, Kenneth Coble of Hildebran, N.C., many nieces, nephews, cousins and special adopted son, David Hughes.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Bass-Smith Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at West Hickory Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Frady officiating. Mr. Phillips will lie in state from 1:30 - 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Hickory.
