Henry "Daniel" Van Hoose, Sr. was born December 5, 1942, in East St. Louis, Illinois, to Nellie & Henry "Hank" Van Hoose, and died at home on Thursday, November 23, 2017, with his loving wife, Jeanne by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hank & Nellie Mae Van Hoose and an infant sister, Donna Mae Van Hoose.Dan is survived by his wife, Jeanne (nee Hudson) , who he married on October 10, 1964; and their five children: Henry Daniel Van Hoose, Jr., of Gilbert, Arizona; Brad Van Hoose of Belleville; Denise (Eric) Wellinghoff of Fairview Heights; Barbara "Babs" (Kevin) Dunaway of Collinsville and Kelli (Craig) Black of Troy. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren: Collin and Natalie Black; Nolan, Sophie, Trey and Samantha Wellinghoff; Ryan and Gavin Dunaway and Abigail and Gracie Van Hoose. Dan is also survived by his brother, Jack (Reva) Van Hoose of Troy, and his special Aunt, Betty Burrelsman, whom he loved like a sister, of Fairview Heights and many cousins, nieces and nephews and special friends.

Dan was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Blue DD-744. He was a Lifetime Member of the Collinsville Soccer Association, Lifetime Member of VFW Post 5691, Operating Engineers Local 148 and retired after 36 years of dedicated service as a Planning Supervisor at AmerenUE. Dan coached and avidly supported numerous youth organizations for more than 40 years; he was Chief Shoe Polisher, cheerleader, trainer and chauffer to his children and grandchildren's activities. There was nothing more important to Dan than his family, he took so much pride in watching them grow and participate in activities that they loved, it is what truly gave him the most joy.

Dan will be greatly missed and will be remembered forever as his legacy of love, generosity, sense of family and work ethic lives on through his children and grandchildren.

Dan was a proud Veteran and requested in lieu of flowers, Memorials be made to Veterans organization, Mission 22 in memory of family friend, Benjamin P. Calvin.

Visitation: 2pm – 7pm, Sunday November 26, 2017 at Valhalla-Gaerdner-Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois.

Funeral Services: 11am, Monday, November 27, 2017, with visitation starting at 10am, at Valhalla-Gaerdner-Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois.
