Joe William Aase, age 67, of Mondovi, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at his home after a heart attack.

He was born on April 26, 1950, in Mondovi to William and Marion (Switzenberg) Aase. He grew up in Mondovi and graduated from Mondovi High School in 1968. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. Joe married Susan Kisselburg in 1973 and together they welcomed two children, William Joseph and Kelly Susanne. They later divorced. He married Cindy Koller in 1984 and they welcomed a daughter, Brittany Jo. Joe was also a father to Cindy’s two sons, Arin and Adam Wilken. The couple later divorced.

Joe ran his family’s hardware store, Coast to Coast (later True Value), in Mondovi for over 40 years. He was known for helping customers find solutions to almost any problem. Joe was a longtime member of Central Lutheran Church, the Mondovi Conservation Club, Ducks Unlimited, and the Mondovi Lions Club. He loved to hunt, fish, sing karaoke (especially “The Monster Mash”), and visit his summer getaway in Alma. He also loved to watch the Green Bay Packers. He will always be remembered for his dry, quick wit, and his kindness to all who met him. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.

Joe is survived by his two daughters, Kelly (Scott) Wacha of Circle Pines, MN, and Brittany (Kyle) Chester of Apple Valley, MN; five grandchildren, Joseph William and Gavin John Aase, Jackson Joseph Wacha, and Lillie Louise and Hayden William Chester; two step-sons, Arin Wilken of Mondovi and Adam Wilken of Eau Claire; two step-grandchildren, Annika and Owen Wilken; daughter-in-law, Kari Aase of Cottage Grove, MN; beloved canine companion, Boyz; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, William Joseph Aase, and his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi with Reverend Rolf Morck officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery.
