Robert William Samuels, son of Caleb Wise "Philip" Samuels and Ruah Jewell Beghtol Samuels, was born on October 17, 1856, on his father's farm near Knob Creek, Kentucky. In 1889, Robert married Alesta Edmon "Lesty" Weir, and they had one daughter together. Lesty died in 1901. Robert then married another widow, Alma Jane "Jeanette" Hartley, on December 17, 1907, in Louisville, Kentucky. Alma had four children of her own. The marriage ended in divorce. He died on May 31, 1937, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 80. He is buried near his family in the Knob Creek Union Church Cemetery in Cupio, Kentucky.
