Mr. Hoff was born Jan. 30, 1886, in New Alsace, the son of Alois and Matilda Futz Hoff. He married Cecilia Matt April 21, 1915, at the St. Paul Catholic Church in New Alsace, and she preceded him in death Dec. 20, 1982. He was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church and the Knights of St. John at Batesville. From 1923 to 1941, he was the grounds keeper at the Hillcrest Country Club in Batesville. From September of 1941 until his retirement, he was the custodian at the St. Louis Catholic Church, at the School and at the Cemetery, in Batesville.
He is survived by two sons: Father Alphonse Hoff, OFM, Wichita, Kan., and Joseph Hoff, Lawrenceburg; three daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Dorothy) Meier, Indianapolis, Miss Deith Hoff, Ninevah and Sister Irene Hoff, OSF, Oldenburg; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Michael and Eugene Hoff; one daughter, Edith Hoff; four brother: Leonard, Jacob, Frank and John Hoff; three sisters: Mrs. Clementine Zinzer and Barbara and Helen Hoff.
The services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, with the Rev. Alphonse Hoff and the Rev. Ric Schneider officiating, and with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville, where a rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.
