Eventually, Edmund fought dementia and was placed in a home of a lady who took care of the elderly in Mobridge, South Dakota. His daughters had both moved away from the area and were unaware that he had been transferred to the State Mental Hospital in Yankton S.D. until his death. It is believed that he was there just a matter of months, died and was buried at the institution.
