Mrs. Appling died Friday, April 27, 2001, in Amarillo. She lived in Plains where she attended high school and received a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and was active in United Methodist Women and various church committees. On July 6, 1948, she married Walter Appling in Lubbock. They lived in Plainview when he served as district superintendent for the Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Karen White of The Woodlands; one son, Dr. Douglas Appling of Houston; two brothers, Ray Anderson of Weatherford and Clyde Anderson of Levelland; and six grandchildren. She was a sister-in-law of Don Appling and Mrs. Jeff (Mary) Davis, both of Plainview, and Mrs. Ed (Melba) Harris of Tulia.
