From the Bolivar Free Press, Thursday, January 16, 1890: "Salem: Died at her home in St. Clair County, January 10, 1890 Laura Ables, aged 34 years, 11 months and 22 days. She was the daughter of William Jones and was favorably known here. Her sickness was brief and this community was shocked on Saturday by the sad news of her death. Her remains were brought to Salem for interment. She leaves four children bereft of a mother's care, a sorrowing husband, and aged father and many mourning friends."
