Lois Peterson Horsley Salisbury
1927 - 2017

Early Life: Lois was born April 20, 1927, on a farm a few miles outside of Saint Johns, Arizona, to Brigham Young Peterson and Stella Jarvis Peterson. Her early education was obtained in Saint Johns, where she graduated as valedictorian of her high school class, just before the conclusion of World War II.
Life’s Work | Service | Interests: Following high school, she earned her bachelor's degree in education at Arizona State University at Tempe in May of 1949. She married David Howard Horsley, of Mesa, Arizona, on December 17, 1948. Soon after her graduation, the couple moved to California where Lois obtained a teaching position with the El Monte Union High School District. She taught Home Economics at El Monte High School for 21 years. In 1971, she accepted the position of Home Economics Department Chairman and continued to teach Life Skills in the department for the next 16 years. She was a favorite teacher and touched the lives of many students. Lois and her first husband were the parents of three daughters: Carol, Jannet and Alison. One son, Brian Lee, was stillborn. The couple divorced in 1974. On February 10, 1977, she married her best friend, David E. Salisbury, an educator from Anaheim, California, originally from Nephi, Utah. They had 39½ wonderful years together, boasting many times that they had never had an argument. While living in California, she and David served in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. In 1988, after her retirement, she and David served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Nuku'alofa Tonga Temple in the South Pacific. After their mission, they moved to Provo where they purchased their condo at Grandview Farms. They loved the community there and developed many wonderful friendships. She especially loved the widows and widowers in the neighborhood and enjoyed hosting many brunches for them. Lois has always been active in the LDS Church, serving as Primary pianist at the age of only 14. She served in many positions in Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society and Young Women organizations. She served as a temple organist in the Provo Utah LDS Temple for about six months prior to a serious stroke in May 1977. Lois and David traveled the world. Her hobby was photography; wherever she went, one would see a camera in her hand. Lois was an example of love, service, compassion, encouragement and dignity. Her family was always first in her heart. In her own way, she endeavored to make each one feel loved and worthwhile. Family gatherings were very important to her and she made great efforts to ensure they were successful and enjoyed by all. Lois Peterson Salisbury, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 30, 2017, in Provo, Utah. She was 90 years old.
