On January 1, 1995 at 10:30 p.m., Ned Waters died as he had lived — surrounded by his loving family.

He had fought a long courageous battle against Lou Gerhigs disease. A loving husband, father, grandfather and caring and compassionate home teacher and friend.

Ned was born July 14, 1922, in Salem to goodly parents, Arminta Cloward and Joseph Allen Waters. He graduated from West High School, where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He attended the U. of U. and Henagers Business College.

He married Kathryn (Kay) Goodliffe on June 20, 1941 in Farmington; the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 5, 1964.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, retiring as a Lt. Col. in the USAR. He was a retired employee of ZCMI.

He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many teaching callings and as a counselor in the bishopric, stake missionary, Salt Lake Temple ordinance worker, and as a full-time missionary with his wife, Kay, in New Zealand in 1987-1989.

He loved all sports, camping, fishing, and traveling to beautiful places in his trailer. He loved family gatherings, especially his birthday gatherings with children, grandchildren, and extended family and friends around.

Survived by his wife, Kay; two sons, Jeffrey (wife, Shirley) and Michael; three daughters, Leah (husband, Ron) Twitchell, and Leann (husband, Stephen) Garavatti, all of Salt Lake City; and Linda (husband, David) Magleby of Provo; and twelve grandchildren, Moses Waters and Allyson, Angela, and Tyler Twitchell; Joseph, Kathryn, Daniel, and Benjamin Magleby; Sarah and Alexis Waters; and Stephen (Buddy) and Michael Garavatti.
