Michael was born in Savannah and was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Pope Jenkins. He was a graduate of Effingham County High School and had lived in St. Thomas for two years where he was a scuba-diving instructor. He had formerly worked with the Effingham County Sheriffs Department and with Rincon Police Department. He enjoyed racing at Oglethorpe Speedway and was the owner/operator of Coastal Transport Solutions.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Gene & Janice Helmly; step-brother, Clay Jenkins; maternal grandmother, Janie Pope; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The visitation will be on Saturday, December 2nd from 10 until 11 a.m. at Compassion Christian Church located at 810 Fort Howard Road in Rincon with the funeral to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Immanuel Baptist Church Cemetery near Brooklet.
