Alvin Eaton is mentioned in the "Beason Centennial - 1872 - 1972" celebratory description of the Beason, IL centennial, as follows:
"The last shoe repair man was Alvin Eaton. When he returned from World War I, he worked in a dental laboratory, then attended school in Springfield, where he learned the shoe repair business. He was first located in the D. A. Gorman Harness Shop in 1934, then he moved his business to the Hammerton Store Building when W.G. Colburn was there. Later he repaired shoes in the back part of W.G. Colburn's building, south of the railroad. After thirty years in the shoe repair business in Beason, he retired in 1960."
