James R. Johnson Obituary
Star, The (Port St. Joe, FL) - Thursday, January 12, 2017

James R. Johnson, "Hot Rod", born March 12, 1931, passed away January 5, 2017 in Wewahitchka. He was a mechanic and worked for the Corps of Engineers, he retired from the Gulf County Road Department, and owned and operated J & J Trucking for many years. He loved racing and building race cars all of his life. Most of all he wanted his daughters to know that he loved them with all of his heart. He always had a smile and loved everyone he met and let them know "I love you." He served the Lord and wanted everyone he met to know his Jesus, and invited them to church. He was faithful to the end. He ran his last race and made heaven his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carey R. Johnson and Pearl Jane Davis; his brother Daryll Johnson, his sister Eloise Davis Currington; and one grandson, Dennis E. Causey.

He is survived by four daughters, Jane Robin and Pete Coburn of Washington State, Tamie Jean and James Hysmith, Debra Ann and Dusty Pope of Wewahitchka, FL, and Velvet Kovac of New Hampshire; his grandchildren, Rachel Stair, Jessica Baldridge, Lenore, Georgie and Ashley Wolinski, Melissa Sims, Joseph and Paul Causey, Adrian Gelatt, Dani June, Jared Guerin; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers are George Wolinski, Jr., Joseph Paul Causey, Jared Guerin, Michael V. Martinez, Matthew Morgan, and a special friend, Bob Connell.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. CST on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Buckhorn Cemetery.

A special Thank You to Covenant Hospice for your loving kindness, Kayla, Rhonda, Caroline, and Holly.

Services were under the direction of Comforter Funeral Home.
