Born and raised in Decatur, Ga., she was the daughter of George Hoyle Mercier, Sr. and Grace Cox Mercier. She was graduated from the Decatur High School for Girls, then worked as an executive secretary for the Coca-Cola Company. After meeting David Franklin Jones, Jr. on a blind date, they were married in 1951 and she made Hawkinsville her home.
Upon becoming a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hawkinsville, Frances sang in the Chancel Choir and directed the Children's Choir for many years. She worked for WCEH Radio in Hawkinsville for several years but her primary focus was making a lovely home for her family. Known for her beauty and quick-wit, Frances loved to sing, dance, play the piano and paint.
Frances was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, her parents and her brother, George Hoyle Mercier, Jr. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diana Jones Becker and William Pierce Becker of Hawkinsville, her sister, Mildred Mercier Ferrell of Alpharetta, Ga. and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to First United Methodist Church, 44 Merritt Street, Hawkinsville, Ga. 31036 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
