Americo "Mickey" R Foglietta, of Old Forge died Thursday at the Northeastern Veterans Center in Scranton. Born in Old Forge he was the son of the late Joseph and Mathilda Staffaroni Foglietta. He was a 1939 graduate of Old Forge High School. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Old Forge American Legion and was a cook for the legion's spaghetti dinners.
Before his retirement, he was employed as an audio/visual technician for Northeast Intermediate Unit of Scranton. He previously worked for the Maxon Plant of Old Forge and the Chamberlain Corp of Scranton. He was a member of St Mary's of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church of Old Forge and the parish Holy Name Society, the Giovagnile Society, and the Old Forge Council Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of the Old Forge School Board.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Markovitch, with whom he celebrated their 49th wedding on the day he died; daughters, Diane Rakowicz, Taylor; Anita Shrive, Clarks Green; and Dotty Barnhart, West Pittston; seven grandchildren; brother, Joseph Foglietta, Poughkeepsie, NY; and sister, Frances Colbassani, Old Forge; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Foglietta. Funeral services will be at 9am Saturday, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St Mary's of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be in Old Forge Cemetery.
